Pennants are always my favourite receiving antennas. They are easy to build, don’t require a ground connection and are very, very quiet. In my particular environment they are, most of the time, the best choice.
During the last summer I rebuilt all the switching boxes with new small sealed relays and got a true improvement of the system.
Everything has been documented in the PDF file “Pennants revisited” . With the new switching circuit, the broadside configuration is working very well, really the best one in the most interesting NE direction. Final evaluations with S/N graphs in this page.
I tried also Pennants in an “end-fire configuration” but the forward element is too close to the telephone lines and the results are not satisfying. But there was no other place to put it :… just outside of the elevated radials and within my property!
